The proposal for the development of the ‘Kannur International Airport’ received ‘in principle’ clearance from the Ministry of Civil Aviation in February 2008. Government of Kerala is now in the process of floating a company for the development of the airport.
The state government has identified 2,000 acres of land for the airport and the acquisition of the land is in the final process. The airport project will explore other related projects like Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO). The techno economic feasibility project envisages to be approximately Rs.1000 crores for the airport. When completed, Kannur airport would be the fourth international airport in the State after Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode.
