Status of Land Acquisition

Distribution of consideration for the land acquired for the use of the Kannur International Airport will be inaugurated on 1^st June 2009 at Kailas Auditorium, Mattannur, Kannur by the Hon'ble Minister of Home and Vigilance in a function which is to be presided over by Smt.Shailaja Teacher MLA. Hon'ble Minister of Health Smt. P K Sreemathi Teacher, Hon'ble Minister of Revenue Shri. K P Rajendran and Shri. K Sudhakaran MP will be the Chief Guests.  Dr.V Venu, Secretary (Tourism), Ex Officio Secretary(Transport) will welcome the gathering and Shri.V Thulasidas, Special Officer, Kannur Airport Proejct will present the project.

On the basis of land identified by the Government of Kerala and the preliminary assessment, an extent of 1284.49 acres of land had been identified, out of which 192.18 acres of land has already been taken possession by Govt. of Kerala. Subsequently Govt. of Kerala vide G.O(MS)No.31/2007/Tran dated. 13.08.2007 has issued orders for the acquisition of the balance area of 1091.82 acres of land under fast track procedures.  Since the procedure has been completed, land transfer will be started on 1^st June 2009 and the process is expected to be completed by the end of July 2009. In addition, Govt. of Kerala has sanctioned acquisition of 723.78 acres of land for meeting the additional requirement of reahabilitation of people displaced by acquisition and also for the development of additional infrastructure required for the airport, for which the process has been initiated.   


Appiontment of consultants

For appointing technical, financial and legal consultants, advertisements were released in the main financial dailies in the month of November 2008 requestiing Expression of Interest from competent firms for assisting Government of Kerala / KINFRA in the selection of JV partner(s) for the proposed Greenfield airport.  The list of short listed firms final selection details are under the final scrutiny of Govt. of Kerala; and it is expected to be finalised within a month.
